LEAP Emerge (LIA) & Impact (ELP) Affinity Group
Exploring Allyship, Solidarity, and Intentionality within “API”
July 16, 2021
1:00Pm - 3:00pm (Pacific Time)
Facilitated by: Kiki Rivera & Alison De La Cruz
LEAP Affinity Groups are invitation only events held during LEAP’s Annual Leadership Awards Celebration. Spaces will include opportunities for leaders across sectors to meet and share best practices with another. By sharing stories of challenges, successes, and failures, Asian and Pacific Islander leaders will be able to create new solutions when necessary and implement proven solutions when appropriate.
Over the last two years, long-overdue struggles for liberation and equity in the United States and around the world were re-surfaced amidst a global pandemic. As we see increasingly more API leaders and organizations practicing solidarity and coalition building, we also reflect on how those practices can and are be used within our own communities.
The “Asian and Pacific Islander” umbrella is both highly diverse and nuanced, and has an equally complex history and journey. Co-facilitated by Kiki Rivera and Alison De La Cruz, this conversation explores the umbrella term comes from, the current impact the API label has on the various communities it encapsulates, and explore how emerging and existing leaders in “API” structures can ensure intentionality and inclusivity for all communities.
